LauraSpanjianAs the City of Houston’s Sustainability Director under Mayor Annise Parker, Laura Spanjian coordinates projects and initiatives that improve air, land, and water quality and that support and expand renewable energy, energy efficiency, green buildings, recycling and composting, alternative and clean transportation, electric vehicle infrastructure, local food production, and more livable and vibrant neighborhoods. She has seen Houston’s future, and it is fresh, clean, delicious, user friendly, and quite sustainable – at least if you follow her lead.

She launched Houston Bike Share and worked on the passage of Houston’s Safe Passing Law, started the City Hall Farmers Market, increased Houston’s purchase of renewable energy to 50 percent, and is working to increase our waste diversion and winning national attention for new innovations such as One Bin for All. Spanjian is passionate about her work and won’t stop until Houston is one of the greenest cities in the nation.
